THINGS + FINGERS is the result of a collaborative process that started 2 years ago between 3 artists: Sergej Timofejev, a Latvian poet who writes in Russian but also publishes in Latvian, Estonian, Italian, English and here for the first time in French; the Riga-born Russian composer, producer and electronic musician Andrei Antonets (aka OID); and the French synthwave artist and musician Stéphane Argillet (aka Stereovoid). The album is built around 10 original poems written and recited by Sergej Timofejev, set to music by OID (side A) and Stereovoid (side B). These poems were written before 2022, but they correlate with the current war situation in Ukraine - some of them tell the experience of fleeing from the places of origin or an invading situation while the international community is just watching the situation develop. Some texts reflect the experience of a pandemic and isolation, the experience of a struggle between irreconcilable opinions, the experience of the "here and now". And the whole album is the story of a collaboration between artists living in different countries but sharing common thoughts about the human being, freedom and concern for the future. Today, when the Russian language is almost obscured by the lies of Russian politicians, we try to liberate it, to liberate it through the voice of a poet, a European poet. All the poems are translated into English and French in a printed booklet included in each record.

Musically, each side reflects the respective musical styles of the musicians: side A, composed by OID, explores finely stylized electronic territories, layers of intriguing noise and arabesques of powerfully evocative sounds. Side B, composed by Stereovoid, offers a synthetic and dark reading that accompanies the poet's voice between ruined industrial architectures and haunted dance floors. ALl tracks were mastered by DeA Hydra at Jardin de Verres (Brussels).

Visually, the records were conceived by Stereovoid as erected books of poetry, composed of successive layers of raw materials, wood, cardboard, black or transparent Plexiglas: two colours, black and gold, applied in silk-screen printing, recall the illuminated golden backgrounds of sacred manuscripts. A blessing hand in the ancient form of the "hand of justice", with its three fingers raised and joined, is both an evocation of the unity of the three artists who collaborated on the record and a call for peace and justice. Parts of the record have been deliberately broken or burnt, symbolising the ruins caused by war, which it is believed will be healed by the creative and restorative spirit and power of art, music and poetry.
